There have been many ideas thrown out there for reunion activities -golfing in Dayton or at Don Williams Lake, canoeing down the Des Moines River, rides on horse drawn wagons, a talent contest, and music rap sessions ( I am pretty sure they are not talking “Rap” sessions, but opportunities to sit and play together!) We could use more suggestions and comments from everyone giving us the thumbs up or down on these ideas. Please post them here or send me an email.

Hidden-Acres-Map

The only way to make reservations for the reunion is to contact me. I wish you could call the camp, but due to so many other groups coming and going, they prefer one person handling the reservations for each group, and I get to be that lucky person! We have the Main Lodge reserved for our reunion. The cost for each room is $50 per night plus a $5 fee for each bed that needs to borrow the camp’s pillows and linens. Please look over the room that you reserve to double check on what size linens you will need. Remember too, that you will need to bring your own bathroom supplies-towels, wash cloths and soap! For those of you flying in, please contact me in regards to the linens and towels. I am sure those of us back here in Iowa can bring in extras of our own stuff so that you do not have to pay for a suitcase that contains only towels and blankets!

As for reservations, what I need from you is what room you want and a check made out to the “Vegors’ Family Reunion” for the amount that you will be paying to house your family for two nights. For example: I would reserve the Nuttail Oak Room and would make out a check for $100.  I will mark off my master list with those of you who contact me with the name of the room you want and will reserve it for you for one week. If I do not receive a check by that time, I will put it back on the website to be reserved. I will update the list of rooms available regularly. I am only doing this so that we can get that money in to save your rooms ASAP!

They said that most families will pay $100 for the weekend, and the kids all crash where they want to. I will leave that up to each of the individual families as to how they want to handle that. Since most rooms have at least 4 beds in them, please feel free to make arrangements with other family members to share a room. All I need is that $50 dollars to reserve that room for each night, and you guys can figure out how to split it between yourselves. Just be sure to give me the names of those who will be staying in the room so I can make sure everyone has a bed! Please notice, in this dorm, there are no bathrooms located in the rooms. They are just down the hallway.

We do have one handicap accessible room on the first floor of this building , with the bathrooms down the hall, for $50 a night. If we have need of more than one room, there are two beds available in the nurse’s office in the Welcome Center. There are no elevators in this dorm nor at the Inn.

For families with small children, we will have some rooms available to us in the new Inn, which is located just to the SE of the Main Lodge. It is not on the map that I have above. This place is brand new and was already rented out to another reunion, but they thought that they would have some rooms available for us to rent.  I am asking that only families with small children or people who cannot manage stairs, reserve these rooms at this time. The reason for this is that each room contains a queen size bed and 2 sets of bunk beds and a bathroom located within the room. Because of that bathroom in the room, it is much more convenient for the small kids to go the bathroom, versus getting up and heading down a strange hallway for two nights. Also, there are now a few rooms available on the first floor for those who can’t climb the stairs.  If I find out that more rooms will be available in the Inn, then I let you all know as soon as I find out. The cost for these rooms are $80 per night, plus a $5 fee for each bed that needs to borrow the camp’s pillows and linens. Check in time for Friday is at 4:00 P.M.

There are lots of fun activities at Hidden Acres, and we will have our own reunion activities, also. But for those of you who have teenagers who might get a bit bored hanging out with the “folks”, here is a list of what is available through Hidden Acres: Paintball $25 (for 2 games, lasting a total of 45-60 minutes), Horseback Rides $15 (from beginning to end, including instruction, approx 60 minutes-must be at least 10 years old) , Climbing Tower $7.50 (Up and down twice… but if someone falls off that doesn’t mean they have to be done, they can keep trying for the top!),   Zip Line $7.50 (2 trips down). You can sign up and pay for these activities once you arrive at the camp at the Welcome Center. There is also, free of charge, a swimming pool, gymnasium, tennis courts, and Lake Lechler, which is used for swimming, canoeing, paddle boating, and THE BLOB!

** I need to give the camp a head count of how many want to do what activities two weeks before the reunion. Please email me at vegors@rocketmail.com to let me know which activities your family would like to do and how many will be participating.

If you do have any specific dietary restrictions, please let me know so that I can put you in contact with the camp cook. They said they do that quiet often, so if you are diabetic, are gluten intolerant, on a low salt diet or are a vegetarian, please, please, let me know! We want everyone to have a good time at the reunion and we need to know how best we can accommodate you!
